Neon Glow Riders at Jones Valley Urban Farm
ChoosePeace.info completed our first series of City Rides on Sunday April 2nd. We explored Birmingham and learned a lot about how the past and future of Birmingham melds as we visited the Railroad Reservation Park, saw a demonstration field of Phytoremediation at Sloss Furnaces, learned of plans of a future Urban Farm that spans an entire city block downtown and its plans on integrating the farm into the community, we learned of UAB's movements towards forming a more traditional campus, including a greenway through the campus area, and we adventured up the Vulcan Trail as we learned more about Red Mountain Park.

After our Birmingham HotSpots Tour, we were greeted by an absolutely incredible organic dinner at Jones Valley Urban Farm's Southside Gardens. Annette Strother and Kaye Alvarez put together a meal that was both beautiful to behold and bursting with flavors and textures. I could not imagine a more wonderful way to be treated after our morning Tour! Local organic farmers including Snow's Bend and Jones Valley Urban Farm, with assistance from Organic Harvest groceries in Hoover, supplied the fresh organic produce and grains that made up the components of this incredible feast!

John Scalici and Get Rhythm! provided a wonderful drumming backbeat as our Glow Riders began to show and decorate their bikes for the Neon Glow Ride. Omni Studio graciously provided the glow sticks that adorned the wheels and bodies of our bikes and riders as we romped our way through Southside and Downtown Birmingham. It was a glow parade led by our glow princess, Liesa Cole and her little sidekick Cole.
