Re-cycled Bike trailer

Kicking around some ideas for building our own bike trailer out of re-cycled bike parts. We're thinking of this for touring cross-country with some pretty wild ideas. i.e. a mini-shelter for sleeping, solar panels, cargo storage, etc. We have an idea...can it be built? Also looking at getting a 2 person recumbent bike. Twice the manpower, fewer "lost" issues i.e. one person being separated and far behind or lost (it's happened to us before), can talk side by side, etc. More legpower to haul more weight. Especially if we're hauling a mini-shelter/storage. I think it would be super cool.

Lots of bugs to work out.....cool start of a project though.....

trailer trike

We got a trailer trike to go with our trike. It also has 192 speeds but all braking and steering is done by the trike up front. We are currently learning how to ride tandem and letting Jillyfish build up her recumbent legs.

Triking seems to be good weight training as opposed to the more aerobic 2 wheelers.

Too much junk in the trunk?

Hmmm... there may be a reason why all the trailers only do so much weight. We're afraid that it might not be so easy to build a little mini shelter b/c of the weight issues. Never say never, but it might be a better idea to pare down than to build up? We talked about just sticking with the camping idea and keeping it simple. I know that someone out there has already probably done this though, and it may be makeshift and funky, but I bet you it's been done! Lightweight materials like fiberglass, aluminum, plastic of some sort, recycled materials?
